Perfect Why Vent Plumbing
It is the proper venting of sanitary sewer systems that has allowed plumbing fixtures to be safely located inside living areas.
Why vent plumbing. By having access to the outside air sewer gas can escape and air can enter the pipes when someone flushes or uses a drain. Your plumbing air vent lets air stay between the draining water and the trap. If the drain lines in your home have poor venting as in Figure A for example water rushing down the drains will pull water from nearby P-traps.
Look at the roof of any house in your neighborhood and youll see one or two plastic or metal pipes jutting up about a foot above the roof line. Plumbing vents can go completely unnoticed by homeowners. The required vent shall be a dry vent that connects to the building drain or an extension of a drain that connects to the building drain.
Take a toilet for example. Every plumbing fixture in your home your toilets showers sinks etc not only has a waste pipe that leads the wastewater away from your home into a sewer system but it also has a plumbing vent pipe commonly referred to as a vent stack that provides fresh air into that waste system to help water flow smoothly through thedrainagepipes and removes gas and odors up and out of the house each time a toilet isflushedor a sink is drained. It brings air from outside into the entire plumbing system.
Vent pipes extend from the drainpipes up through the roof to provide that passage while also carrying odors out of the house. It admits air into the plumbing system which then pushes water throughout the pipes. In plumbing a vent or more precisely a drain waste vent helps to remove sewage and greywater from a building or home.
The vent also helps to regulate air pressure in the plumbing pipes to ensure that the water flows unimpeded through them. This keeps water in the trap pipe. Ventilation pipes prevent a vacuum from being formed in the drain system allowing waste or water to flow smoothly through drain pipes.
If theres a problem with the open airway of your drainage ventilation it can cause the water to slow or stop draining. This is best implemented if a fixture rests close to the stack and the top floor of your home allowing the stack to serve as a vent. This air must be replaced and thats what a plumbing vent pipe does.
